Things to do in the Musquodoboit Valley area

River Oaks Golf Club

River Oaks Golf Club offers a challenging 18-hole course situated near the beautiful Musquodoboit River as well as a 9-hole course. The club has many facilities including a pro shop, country lodge, a licensed restaurant that is opened to the public, a spacious clubhouse, and a canteen. Dollar Lake Provincial Park

Dollar Lake Provincial Park is located 23 km (14 mi.) east of the Halifax International Airport on Route 212 (Old Guysborough Rd.) The park has a total of 119 open and wooded camp sites. Situated on Dollar Lake, the park also offers sandy beaches, picnic area, showers, flush toilets, canteen, fire grills and firewood, along with a boat launch, trails, swimming and playground. Open May 16 - Sept 15. Camping reservations can be made beginning April 2nd.

Shubenacadie River Runners

Moose River Gold Mines Provincial Park & Museum

The park is a historic site marking the spot of the 1936 gold mine disaster that left three men trapped inside the mining shaft at the 141 foot level. Visitors are welcomed to roam the park freely within the security fences. Also in Moose River there is a Miner's Museum. Here there are visual and audio displays that bring you back in time to the heart of the disaster. Many items that were used in the rescue can be seen at the museum. Canteen & washroom facilities on-site.

Musquodoboit Trailways Association

A great place to hike and enjoy a wide variety of birds, solitude and rugged wilderness. Variety of trails and terrain to offer something for everyone - including easy, moderate, difficult, and rugged. Trails range from 1 km to 14.5 kms.

Musquodoboit Valley Picnic Park

Enjoy the beautiful Musquodoboit River, a class II canoeing river, providing easy access for canoeing and fishing or purely refreshment on a hot summer day. Several picnic tables with shades are provided throughout the park for family picnics and a large playground area is available for the children's enjoyment. The wide open, green fields can be used for friendly games of summer time sports such as baseball, soccer, football, or even a peaceful walk. Washrooms are available on the grounds.

Never Blink Twice Outdoor Paintball 

NBT is an outside facility in a wooded setting with many wooden structures, bridges etc., on irregular terrain. The ‘field’ is about one acre in size and is always well maintained. NBT opens its season March 1st. Walk-on Sundays will continue to be the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month starting March 9, 2008. Walk-on hours of operation are 1pm til 4pm.

Middle Musquodoboit Walking Tour

Starting from the Musquodoboit Valley Visitor Information Centre (next door to Fulton's B&B), the walking tour of Middle Musquodoboit is approximately three kilometers and provides 30 to 40 minutes of relaxing walk around our village. There are several stores and restaurants along the way where you can stop and get a snack.

Drop in to the Visitor Information Centre (next door to Fulton's B&B) for a printed copy of the Walking Tour map together with the history of the various buildings.

Bicentennial Theatre

Since 1985, many of the top Canadian performers have performed on the Musquodoboit Valley Bicentennial Theatre & Cultural Centre's stage: John Allen Cameron, Rita MacNeil, Murray MacLaughin, Valdy, Natalie McMaster, Michelle Wright to name but a few.

The Bicentennial Theatre is a year round facility committed to serving the community's entertainment needs. As well, it is an ideal location for meetings, conventions and special events.

Icelandic Memorial Society (Markland)

The goal of the Society is to promote the memory of the early Icelandic settlers in Nova Scotia and to assist and encourage the descendants and others to preserve their heritage. The Society was incorporated in 1998 to educate the public about Nova Scotia's Icelandic past. Revisit the site of our pioneer settlers and stroll through the Icelandic Settlement named "Markland" which existed from 1875 to 1882 on 3,000 acres of land. Books chronicling the history of Markland are available at the Musquodoboit Valley Tourism Association office, located in the Bicentennial Theatre.

Titus Smith Walking Trails

The 130 ha woodlot behind the Natural Resources Education Centre, Middle Musquodoboit, is a wonderful spot to spend the day.

The walking trails through the woodlot highlight the living forest providing insight into the way natural cycles and forest management practices can work together to produce a healthy and productive woodland.
